Swirl of Color

This was a small piece of a larger installed art work at a pre-school just being completed by our office. We toured the school as they were finishing up construction and preparing for the staff and students to move in over the next couple of weeks. The swirl is made with a series of LED lights behind some sort of translucent stone and this was taken with the Macro setting up close to the stone.

Da MOON 2...

Well, it has been some time since I posted so here are a couple of new posts. This is another photo of the Moon taken through the eyepiece of a telescope. It is amazing how much detail can be seen on the surface of the moon. This was with a different telescope than the last photo so the field of view is not quite as large so I am cutting part of the Moon off at the bottom of this image (too bad). I also used a tripod when taking this image so the clarity seems to be much better than the first one which was hand held.

As promised the trip-tick...

This is the three part work (trip-tick) called Black and White 1, Black and White 2, and Black and White 3. All are ink on sketch paper and the original size of each is 8"x8", I started the 1st one knowing that it would be part of a series, so over about 2 weeks I completed the three then did the one posted earlier. It was a lot of fun and I am very happy with how they came out.

Another Santa Fe Sketch...

This is another sketch I did at the New Mexico State Forestry Headquarters in Santa Fe. I wanted to highlight some of the fall colors so I decided to draw with Ink and then add watercolor pencil just to the leaves that were changing. As I have stated before I really enjoy sketching and I just wish I had more time to do it, it seems that at times there is just way too much to do and I do not have enough time to do everything I want to do. Where does all the time go and why do I always seem to run out of it...

Not one of mine but wow!!!

A friend of mine, Becky, suggested that if I had not seen this Astronomy Picture of the Day that I go back to the archives and look at it and I am glad I remembered because wow. While this is not something I did I still wanted to share it with everyone because it is fairly spectacular. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

And Another Shot...

And, another image of the crescent Moon, Jupiter and Venus taken a bout 45 minutes after the previous shots. Still amazing...

Terrific Trio...

What a Terrific Trio... What an amazing place this solar system is (I guess the galaxy and the universe is pretty cool too.) A wonderful view of the crescent Moon, Venus and Jupiter, I noticed them last night when they were a little farther apart and was looking foreword to this evening when they would be a little closer together. This was an image taken from the parking lot at the Hotel Albuquerque, the pink from the sunset was just barely around but still very cool. Way to go stellar buddies, good show!

Some other work...

This is the forth in a series of ink on sketch paper drawings I have done in the last couple of weeks. The first three were done to be a trip tick and are not so rectilinear (even though they are done with the same method). Once I have completed the trip tick I will post it to share here. I sometimes do too much I think, but I have fun with things like this and it is a very therapeutic way to wind down the day and relax.

Just Another NM Sunset...

...WOW, the sunsets in New Mexico are rarely just another sunset they are absolutely spectacular. A sunset at GNTO near Belen, NM looking over the Rio Puerco. If they only lasted longer, but after just a few short minutes the sunset is gone.

This was a panorama stitched together by several photographs of the sunset.

Light Waves

Oops! I was trying to photograph the moon as it rose above the mountains, and did not have a tripod with me so the image I took showed parking lot and other lights as streaks. I thought it was pretty cool so I set my camera to a longer exposure and began to move it while the shutter was open creating long streaks and some really fun photographs and patterns.

I love to sketch...

A sketch done at the NM State Forestry Headquarters in Santa Fe, it is an amazing building built by the CCC during the depression and the courtyard is spectacular. This is a sketch done in the same courtyard shown in the panorama photo earlier on this blog.

I take my sketch book with me whenever I am traveling and tend to do a lot of sketches, some are quick and never really finished and some are finished a little while later, I will draw the base quickly and get as much of the large elements and then come in later and add the shadows and darken in windows and doors and such.

I think I like to sketch as much as I like to photograph, it is a very relaxing thing for me and I enjoy looking through my sketchbooks again later.

Da MOON!

I was out at UNM Campus Observatory a couple weeks ago (as usual on Friday's) and took this photo of the moon about a week before full through the eyepiece of my telescope. It is pretty cool, the moon is such an amazing thing to look at and a lot of fun to take pictures of.

What a sunset

I was walking out of Walmart and looked to the west and was absolutely amazed at the color of the sky as the sun was setting. I put up my things and grabbed my camera and took some photos before the color went away, you know sunsets do not last long.
A stitched panoram from several immages of the courtyard at the New Mexico State Forestry Headquarters in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This was a CCC project built during the depression and is an amazing space.

The immage is comprised of about 25 immages that were stitched together using a program called autostitch, it is prety cool and I think works well.
